In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling meadows, lived a shepherd boy. His existence was pure, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was essentially to care for his flock of ewes.

Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the breezes through the lone tree on the mountaintop were his only co-dwellers. Day upon day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a notion of calm satisfaction.

Yet, there were at times moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would long for fellowship. In one such instance from sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plot.

Narratives of wild beasts hunting on sheep had been heard times and again in the hamlet. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a prank on the townsfolk.

One morning he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! A wolf is preying on my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but saw nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the confusion on their faces. This game laughed for a few more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually charge at the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one came.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Devastated, he returned to the town only to receive a scolding on honesty and the consequences of dishonesty.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once violated, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then. check here
